History & Mission

The Society, Inc. was founded in May 1983 by four women who conceived the idea of organizing a group of professional women who shared the goals of friendship and service. The outcome of their efforts was the establishment of The Society as an organization to promote friendship among members and serve as a resource in the arts for young people.

OUR MISSION
To promote friendship and social exchange among members; to function as a resource for young people in the arts; and to promote educational, civic and cultural experiences within the community.

OUR GOALS
The Society, Inc. fosters the arts and young artists through the following goals:
• Introducing young performing artists and/or visual artists to community audiences;
• Providing opportunities for communities to interact intimately with visual and performing artists through artist lectures, exhibitions, luncheons, concerts, plays, and receptions;
• Working with community agencies and organizations to produce exhibitions and performing arts programs for local areas that otherwise would not have the means to enjoy such culturally enriched actives; and
• Stimulating artistic expression and creativity among youth by supporting scholarships and field trips and delivering focused performing arts activities that enable youth to interact with artists.

Because of our responsibilities as role models and mentors for young people who will be the leaders of the future, Society chapters have focused upon supporting youth who are talented in the arts. To this end, we support a variety of projects in our communities and support collectively and individually local and national initiatives.

The Los Angeles Chapter
The Los Angeles Chapter was chartered on June 26, 1993 at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA). The Los Angeles Chapter has focused on supporting youth who are talented in the arts and enhancing their appreciation for and knowledge of the many exciting dimensions of artistic expression. We are dedicated to the intellectual, social, and economic development of youth in the arts and are committed to personal participation and involvement in cultural activities in the greater Los Angeles community.
It is our belief that our youth must be nurtured and supported in ways that they feel express their spirit, loyalty, energies, faith and hope. Thus our theme, “Seeking to Secure Tomorrow’s Artists Today” is fitting. We stand committed to strengthen the foundation of our society by insuring that our youth can and do use their talents for the greater good.

OUR COMMITMENT
The Society, Inc. is committed to transform lives and build communities by uniting young people with the power of the arts and to reach communities with quality programming for young artists and performers”.
